Basketball refereeing assignment possible changes

.     It has been brought up and has been a major issue with the administration of the basketball games in how we assign referees to administer the games.
      The big area of consternation is the teams that play at 8:00 have to have a referee for the boys games at 6:00 and 7:00, then play at 8:00 then referee at 9:00.   Some teams just do not have any players who can physically get off work go home eat and get to the gym by 6:00.
     The reason  we do this is what we see as a need for competent neutral referees. We don't want players to say to a referee you made that call for Xward because you ar from Xward.
       In a move to make it so much easier to administer we will propose at the basketball meeting Jan 14, 7:00 at the Anoka stake center, that the young men's games be refereed by those  teams, the men's teams will no longer be assigned under threat of a forfeit to show up early and referee.
     So who will referee?   Whoever the teams playing can get, if there is someone from the men's team who will do it, or a parent or the coaches,  or worse case scenario if no adults are present the boys can self officiate.
    We will have referees for the tournaments.
      Not sure why, maybe it is that the young men are going on missions at 18, but the regular season is less intense as in the past, there are more and more games where only a couple players from one team show up so they split and play practice games, many games are forfeits, which means some men went out of  there way to get there to referee only to have no game.
      We experimented with some Saturday morning games in which they self officiated and it went ok. Volleyball and Futsal are self officiated.
     So if you have ideas on the matter bring the. To the meeting.

FYI gopher volleyball in final 4

The gopher volleyball team just qualified for the NCAA final four to be played Thursday and Saturday this week in Omaha Neb.
   the team is coached by Hugh Mccutchen who is a native of Christchurch NewZealand (my Mission) and graduated from BYU, he was the men's Olympic coach when as you might recall his father in was stabbed to death at the games.

Bachman is married to Hugh McCutcheon, the former coach of the U.S. men and women's volleyball team and current coach of the University of Minnesota's women's volleyball team.

Her parents, Todd and Barbara, were attacked in an incident in Beijing when they attended the 2008 Olympics. Todd was killed, while Barbara was critically injured. A 47-year-old Chinese man named Tang Yongming assaulted them at the Drum Tower eight kilometres from the main Olympic site before leaping to his death from the 40-metre high balcony.^[2]

While your watching conference enjoy this fun fact: L. Tom Perry was on the team that won the 1940 ALL-CHURCH Volleyball tournament! A great man, and a great stake volleyball player! Forever in our hearts, may he rest in peace! 

TC2 (Hmong ward) 2015 SAMS LDS VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS

     Congratulations to the Hmong Ward, TC2 for winning the 2015 SAMs LDS  men's volleyball championship... They played Shore View in the finals.  It was a classic match up of Shore Views height and power vs TC2's speed, and expert coverage and defense.
   We want to thank everyone for a fine season,thanks for those who helped set up chairs and tables for the Christmas party.
   Have a great Christmas season.

 Remember get your basketball teams and coaches lined up the basketball meeting is Jan. 14 , 7:00 at the Anoka Stake center, the games start the following week, at the meeting we will go over rules and how we will administer the games, if you have complaints  that is the time to do it.,  The gams start the following Thursday the 21st.   (We might have some of the boys games on Sat. Morning again.

FUTSAL CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to the Spanish ward young men (TC1) they finished the inaugural Futsal season undefeated, beating Elm Creek 4-2.
     There was drama, after falling behind 4-1, Elm Creek scored making it 4-2 tha. With minutes to go the TC1 goalie did a hand save resulting in a free direct kick with no goalie from half court. The shot just missed.
