THE ROAD TO CRYSTAL.... and than there were two!

And then there were two.  
     Eighth seeded  Shingle Creek/Princeton  will play #2  Maple Grove in the Men's  finals next Thursday April 30  at  8:00 at the Crystal stake center.
    The young men's championship game between  defending champion and top seeded Eden Prairie and  #3 Elm Creek which  play at 7:00 also at  Crystal.
    The  game of the night was  TC1 (Spanish) nearly upsetting  Maple Grove.   In the  first half TC1  opened a  double digit lead.  Hitting contested shots all over the court.  Maple Grove rallied to trail  by 3  at half.
    Second half a flurry of difficult shots kept going in for  TC1  until they LEAD BY 12  with 2  minutes to go!  Maple Grove went into a desperate vicious  full court press  and converted  turnovers into layups  until they took a 2  point lead with seconds to go.  A  last second TC1 shot missed but  a  foul was called on the play.   With 1  second to go, trailing by 2  TC1 had 2  shots,  they  made the first  but the second missed however the big man for the Spanish  reached over the shoulder of the  boxing  out rebounder  and was able to tip the ball up, but it just  missed, game over.
    In the other  quarter final  Bloomington beat  North St. Paul 56-44.
In  the first semi-final hot shooting Shingle Creek/Princeton  beat  Blaine 57-37.
In the night cap there was another barn burner in the other semi-final Where  Bloomington rode 5  first half  threes  by Adam   to a nine point half time lead over Maple Grove. Maple Grove  fought back but  the rally  was slowed by  uncharacteristically missing  6 free throws in a row.  but Maple Grove got hot combined with vicious  defense  and Maple Grove took the lead for the first time in the last minute, Maple Grove sealed the deal with 6  straight  free throws to win 60-54.

  Thanks for  the great season so far, thanks for all the volunteers  who helped make this another wonderful season.

  Get this on your Calander, the tri-stake golf tournament will be August 15th  with details to follow.

The Volleyball coach's  meeting  will be  Thursday Sept 10th, 7:00 at the Anoka stake center. Due to  lack on interest in Young men's volleyball  we are kicking around  the idea of indoor soccer for the young men'... your feed back is appreciated.

The YM  championship game between  ELM CREEK and  EDEN PRAIRIE will be Thursday April 30   at  7:00  at   Crystal  on  CHAMPIONSHIP THURSDAY.

Followed by the Men's championship at 8:00, again April  30th at Crystal.

 After being down at half MGB (ym)  pulled away and beat New Prague (ym) by 10
Than MGB  had top rated Eden Prairie down by 4  with 5 minutes to go. but Two clutch 3 pointers in the last minute gave EP  a  3 point lead,  a game tieing  wide open 3 at the buzzer  rimmed out.

Then Bloomington beat EP  in sudden death double overtime!

Than  TC1 (Spanish)   beat Elm Creek 53-52!
in the Quarter finals 
Top rated Lake Nokomis  trailing Shingle Creek/Princeton  27-16  at half time rallied,  Trailing by 3  with 8 seconds to go, SC  was fouled and missed two free throws,  an NBA 3  for a tie missed  the rebound was but in  at the buzzer.
#8 SCP  upset top ranked Lake Nokomis 55-54.

FYI, furious 7

FYI I recently went to Furious 7 and was surprised to find out this bit of info....

1. According to the Christian Post, Walker grew up a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glendale, Calif. Although he was not an active Mormon in his adult years, Walker remained a Christian.Dec 2, 2013


 Paul Walker passed away in the middle of filming this movie, the ending is very touching.

Famous LDS athletes

Since I noticed famous Mormons on the blog if you do not know. Might not be the Super Bowl but is pretty big deal. 
 
Returned Mormon missionary Matt Brown wins NCAA wrestling title
Matt and Lauren Brown met at Penn State while she was being taught by the missionaries. When she decided to join the LDS Church, she asked Matt, just home from his mission, to baptize her. They began dating a month later and were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 2012.
Matt Brown is believed to be the first returned Mormon missionary to win a Division I NCAA wrestling title. He is also a top student, a leader in his LDS branch, a husband and soon-to-be father.

Also I saw one of the best sportsmanship accolades ever last week in YM playoff game by New Prague vs Shoreview. Shoreview had this really smaller than every one else player and since Shoreview only had 5 players he played the whole game. Well before the game was over maybe 7:30 left a Shoreview player shot the ball and missed and a New Prague player gave it back to him and he might of missed a second time and the New Prague player gave it to him again and he scored. Great sportsmanship and that was a playoff game and could show the Men a thing or two. I reefed both Shoreview games and I think that was the only points he scored.
