FUTSAL
The initial Futsal torunament pits undefeated Twin Cities 1 (Spanish) vs Elm Creek. Elm Creek is bolstered by the addition of high school soccer players who are members of the ward. Only one high school team soccer player is allowed on the court at a time.
7:00 at the St. Paul stake center.
VOLLEYBALL
There are fewer but stronger teams, with Crystal and Shingle Creek, Elm Creek and Medicine Lake, Plymouth and lake Nokomis, Maple Grove and Andover combining there should be a very competitive tournament, The past three champions will have their teams mostly back together.
Reminder
To help facilitate participation if your team has more than 6 players there are three ways you can substitute
1). Traditional rotating, every player sits out a rotation or two then rotates in.
2). One on one substitution, generally one player plays a position on the front row, another does the back row, or one player plays all 6 rotation spots than substitutes. This form requires the two players need to sub for each other only.
3) Hybrid, you rotate players,as in (1) but you can skip over a player, or two, three ,four, even 5 as they stay on the Court in there rotation position.
You must pick and announce your form of substitution before each game, And you ar allowed to change from game to game within a match, however whatever method you use to start a game you must finish that game.
Match's are 2 of 3 games all games to 25 win by two or first to 30.
The tournament is double elimination, but when you get to the final two teams if the team with one loss, wins there will only be one game to 25 for the championship, good luck.

2015 SAMS LDS Men's Volleyball tournament
Sorry for Game (5) it is at 7:45, Dec, 10 at Anoka.

futsal tournament update
. The conclusion of the initial season of Futsal has been amazing.
In the first semi final game Elm Creek trailed Shingle Creek 2-1 but tied it by half time. It remained tied until the final minute when Elm Creek scored, advancing to the championship game.
In the other bracket Maple Grove vs. Medicine Lake. maple Grove is composed of a team with several deacons. medicine Lake only had three players. medicine Lake lead 4-1 at half time, at which time the Maple Grove coach and one of their best players had to leave. The Medicine lake players were totally exhausted. And chose to play completely defensive. maple Grove started to rally and got to 4-3. When with 2 minutes to go a hand ball by the goalie gave MG a free kick from half court.... The dramatic shot just missed. The rally continued and with 30 seconds left MG tied it.
In the sudden death overtime period, MG peppered the Mlk goal but Mlk got a full court break away and scored.
After a 5 minute break Mlk had to play TC1. The Spanish Ward with its contingent of 10 skilled players.
In a gesture of tremendous class sportsmanship , and the spirit of Christ. the Spanish coach said Mlk could use MG players to fill their team. And it would still count! The game was scoreless through the first 10 minutes when TC 1 scored on it's way to a 6-1 win.
This sets up the championship match between TC1 and Elm Creek, funny during the regular season TC1 was 10-0 Elm Creek was 0-10. However Elm Creek has been bolstered by the addition of players who played high school soccer.
just to clarify the rule, you can have as many high school players on the court as you want but high school students who played for their high school team, and are Baptised members of your ward, you can only have one on the court at a time, but unlike adults, they are allowed to score.
The Championship game will be Thursday Dec. 3, 7:00 at the St. Paul stake center at 100 Silver Lake Road.
Good luck to all.

Movie anyone?
I went to a sneaky good movie last week.
"Woodlawn"
I truly left feeling inspired, and uplifted,
It is based on a true story and is about family, faith and football, and demonstrated how Jesus united a racially divided community.
I give it 4 stars.
g
P.S. It is appropriate for any age.
Question.... How many movies can you go to these days and hear church hymn music? :-)

YM indoor soccer name change FUTSAL!
For convenience and to delineate our sport from "soccer" we will now call our sport "Futsal".
I actually first heard of it from someone from Portugal who has moved to Salt Lake City and somehow stumbled across our SAMS LDS sports blog, and he asked if we played "Futsal".
Futsal (Portuguese pronunciation: [futˈsal]) is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller field and mainly played indoors. It can be considered a version of five-a-side football.[1] Its name comes from the Portuguese Futebol de salão , which can be translated as "room football". It was developed in Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s.
In Brazil, futsal is played by more people than football but does not attract as many spectators as the outdoor sport. Several futsal players have moved on to careers as successful professional football players.[2]
Futsal is a game played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football due to the surface of the field.[3] The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.[4]
Tell me does this not sound more like what we are playing than "soccer"?
So from now on lets call our sport Futsal.
