Well it looks like a perfect day for golf. I just checked with the course and we will be allowed to use carts. For those who haven't played there before you will see what a blessing that is when you get to the end of the back nine.
I looks like we will have a great turn out, 5 former winners will be there, including winners of 8 of the last 9 tournaments
The favorite will Be Dana Oelkers looking for his unprecedented 4th win.
We will be playing "ATONEMENT" golf
I have always said I don't care what rules we play by so long as we all play by the same rules.
Since this is the Church of Jesus Christ we wanted out tournament to be different than the run of the mill golf tournament.
Thus ATONEMENT GOLF
Christ is the savior of the whole world, He has paid the price of our sins. He has paid the penalties for our sins
Since (D&C 35:1) says Listen to the voice of The Lord your God..Whose course is one eternal round (of golf) (Alma 37:12) For a wise purpose which is known unto God for he doth counsel in wisdom over all his works, and his paths are straight, (as are his drives) and his course is one eternal round (of golf)
* parenthesis added :-)
The atonement is not just a Sunday in church principle is it eternal! Including the golf course!
Thus we will play a normal round of golf individual play except if we sin, and do a shot that requires a penalty.... Christ's atonement has paid that penalty... at least for this tournament. So if your shot goes in the water or out of play, or you push your ball up on the grass (tee it up on the grass) you go to the nearest spot that it went out, drop a ball and shoot your next shot NO PENALTY (it has been paid already)
Our reason for doing this are
1) To be different and fun
2) To benefit those who don't get to get out a lot who's shots are not as consistent as those who play multiple times a week.
So have fun. Play quick, We really have to hustle so all can finish. it gets dark around 7:50
Play ready golf, whoever is ready first play. When you putt just putt out.
Assess your game if you are out for fun, have fun no rules apply.... foot wedges, mulligans go for it
However is you are aiming for the best golf score award,
No penalties (including a tee shot out of play, usually you lose distance and stroke and penalty, but for this tournament you go to where it went out, drop and shoot your second shot.
HOWEVER
1) The atonement does not apply to gimmies, NO gimmies, if I casually backhand a 6 incher and miss, I will count it as will anyone else going for the title. There are some tricky greens and that 6 incher can be challenging.
2) No mulligans every shot counts.
Good luck we have valuable prizes for
The lowest score
The highest score
The person who loses the most golf balls (the prodigal ball rule applies a ball out of play that is found is still a "lost ball" )
There will be valuable prizes for the skills competition
Two longest drives (must be on the fairway)
Two nearest to the pin
Two longest putts
At the end everyone please gather at the practice green for awarding of prizes and one final "one putt and one putt only" contest with a historic very cool prize.
Finally
Players not finishing due to darkness, the final holes will be the same score as your first holes you shot with the same par, So if you do not finish hole 17 (par 4) you will get the same score that you got on hole one ( another par 4) 18th hole is a par 3, so it will be the same score as hole 4 (another par 3) etc. (hopefully we can hustle and all can finish)
Tie breaker if there is a tie, and the tied players are present there will be a one putt and one putt only on the practice green with the person closest to the pin being the winner.
If one of the tied players had to leave the players tied who are there will one putt only to get to that one person and the player tied who has left, and the tie will be broke by head to head competition starting with the Number one handicap hole, if still tie number 2 etc until there is a winner.
