. Besides the great story of the underdog which hasn't been to the World Series since 1985' Jeremy Guthrey the starting pitcher for game 7, is a very faithful outspoken member of the church. He is a returned missionary.

Week 6 update
With the season half over the league is shaping up to be one of the most balanced in years.
After Medicine lake swept both men's basketball and volleyball championships last year some on the competition committee suggested new rules to help balance the league like allowing only 2 Peniata's on the court at a time, that suggestion was quickly squashed by the higher up powers that be.
However major developments occurred, Brian Peniata moved to the Elm Creek Ward Upgrading their team greatly and downgrading Medicine Lake. Sadly for Elm Creek which has been on the verge of the final 4 several years in a row, one of their best players, Mike Gray recently moved to San Diego California, I am sure if he knew Brian was going to move into their ward he would have stayed. (or not)
But before you feel to sorry for Medicine Lake they recently had a member move into their ward, Mark, who is about 6'6" and played varsity college volleyball out west somewhere. (the rich get richer).
A look at the standings and you see Defending champion and winner of 3 of the last 4, Medicine Lake , is 3-7, don't let that fool you one Peniata is in school Thursday nights, and another coaches volleyball Thursday nights, You can be sure that they will be there for the tournament.
Elm Creek has surged to the top of the standings, they are very well balanced and formidable.
Shore View is also very well balanced this year. with a couple elite players in Matt Gray and Ricky who is tall and fantastic.
Maple Grove was doing well scraping together a team until their star, Dan Wait who is a carpenter had a board fall on his head from 15 feet resulting in a mild concussion and 10 staples, fortunately he only be out only a couple of weeks.
Dark horses include Blaine who could be very good again depending on who is home for Thanksgiving and the tournament. At 7-3 NSP is also right there and depending on how many Zoellingers show up could be very strong.
Best of all everyone seems to be having fun.

Week 6 Schedule revised (again)
The number one rule in Church sports is "stay Flexible".
That applies 's today, after much negotiation the Shingle Creek and Lake Nokomis teams have come to terms and agreed to combine for the rest of the season. Thus creating another potential powerhouse in the league.
The schedule has been updated for tonight and next week, the rest of the schedule should be updated by the end of this weekend, all teams still play at the same location so sorry for any confusion and thanks for remaining flexible.

volleyball scheduling grid
For the hard core Volleyball schedule geeks, here is the volleyball grid used to create the schedule, to use it look at the left column find the team name go across and see where you intersect the teams on the top row, the numbers where they intersect represent the week numbers the teams play, everyone plays everyone at least twice, for the most part, we tried to have teams not play back to back weeks, that wasn't always possible.
