The Women politely asked if the EC/SC (ym) scheduled for this Sat, Feb1, 2014 be moved from 8:00 to 9:00. As President Hinckley often. Said, "don't mess with the Relief Society". We will comply.
Thanks

Referee assignments
Hi all,
I know you all are interested in opportunities to excercise, and serve others, well the great opportunity exists again this year to serve others by refereeing!!! (You are welcome :-)).
Weather you look at the assignment as a great opportunity or just an annoying duty it has to be done, much of the success of the basketball program depends on our refs. I thank you all in advance, in the past it has been wonderful, I have received many compliments thanks to you guys.
The assignments are the same as last year however because we have fewer men's teams and the young men are playing half their games on Saturday, we have to check closely to see what time your team is scheduled to ref.
If we only have 3 games at a location the games will be at 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00.
If you play at 8:00, you need to officiate the 7:00 and 9:00 games
If you play at 9:00 you need to officiate at 8:00 (2 from each team)
If the location has 4 games we will schedule them for 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30
If you play at 7:30 you ref at 6:30 and 8:30
If you play at 8:30 you ref at 7:30 and 9:30
If you play at 9:30, you help clean up the building, and yes each building has a vacuum if needed.
Now this could still be more complicated if we have two boys games at a location, but we will give out the weekly assignments if they vary from the above.
And like previous years missing an assignment counts as a forfeit, any combination of your team not showing up to play, missing an assignment, or forfeiting for unsportsmanlike behavior totaling 3 and your team is out of the tournament and possibly out for the remainder of the season.
Spread the word and let's have a great season.

SAMs lDS 2014 basketball rule changes
Hi all here are some,of the changes we made for the upcoming season.
1) This is huge, we are going to experiment with this and see how it goes. Remember the priesthood handbook wants us to emphasize participation, and after studying for compliance the Minnesota state high school league handbook we are going to allow high school basketball players to join the our leagues when their seasons are over. This usually means the last game or two of the regular season and the tournament. Now to keep the league from being over run by high school players and their non-member school teammates and preserve as much as possible the church team that was playing most of the season we are limiting the high school players to only those who are Baptized members of your ward. Should there be more than one high school player from a ward joining the team only one on the court at a time High school players are defined as 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, a-f squad. Ninth grade players are allowed to play all year on the church team . For now free agent high school players, meaning players who's home ward does not have a team will not be allowed to join other teams in the league. ( Baby steps, maybe in the future)
This is important! A high school team may have to forfeit their games. High school players may not participate in games or even practices where a coach is present during the high school teams season until their team has been eliminated from the season ending tournament.
2) Non-members need only play in one regular season game during the season to be eligible for the post season tournament.
3). Since we have a running clock for most of the game and to preserve playing time, substitutes can enter the game before the first free throw if they are ready to enter as they are setting up for the first free throw.
4). If a team forfeits twice they are done for the. Season. It will not be a forfeit if you call ahead the day before and tell us your team cannot make it. Remember for the season you can bring your fathers, mothers sisters players from other teams to join you and the game will not be a forfeit, it will be an automatic loss. It is not fair for the other team or a the referees to rush home from work and get there early and have not have a team show up.
5). Some of the young men's games will be on Saturday mornings with the young women and women.
Have a great season.

SAMs lDS men's and young men's basketball
Happy New Years. My goodness time flys and the basketball season is upon us. the coaches meeting is this Thursday Jan 9th 7:00 at the Anoka stake center the games start the following Thursday, Jan 16.
We will be discussing rules and how we are going administer the program, every ward with a men's or young men's team should be represented, we will form the first week's schedule and give out referee /clock/ book assignments. Your team is responsible for those assignments weather you are at the meeting or not.
I know it is getting late and if you haven't already done so we need to get coaches and teams in place. Often times we need to be proactive and approach the bishopric councilor over sports with coaching suggestions.
Looking, forward to another great season of SAMS (St. Paul,Anoka, Minneapolis stake) lds basketball.

P.S. This is our major form of communication so spread the word.
