Blog hit update
For those scoring at home, this experimental blog started approximately a year ago. We just finished our first "paperless" sports season. Several trees would like to thank us for that.
Our total hits as of this morning is 8623.
As one of the persons responsible for administering the sports program I can not tell you how this has simplified and clarified things. The old email contact lists were becoming unmanageable.
Technology can be such a wonderful thing.
Merry Christmas everyone and may the odds be always in your favor. :-)

Medicine Lake, Men's 2013 SAMS LDS volleyball champions
Congratulations to the Medicine Lake Men's volleyball team the 2013 SAMS LDS champions. This is their 3rd championship in 4 years!
It was a great tournament with many really close competitive match's, the sportsmanship was wonderful. The final results from the tournament:
1) Medicine Lake
2) Shore View
3) Blaine 1
4) Maple Grove
Medicine Lake showed great team work, balance, court coverage and guile, Fun to watch.
Maybe the sportsmanship event of the tournament was the North St. Paul team which had the SAMS LDS relic Tommy Janson (Tommy Gun) graced the floor again with his presence again after a two year layoff as he recovered from near death Cancer. Admittedly he wasn't as quick and agile as he once was but he hustled and even got a spike in.
REMEMBER the Basketball coach's meeting is the second Thursday in January, Jan 9, at the Anoka stake Center, 7 P.M. 2014. The games start the following week.
Don't forget to put a suggestion in the Bishops ear to get coach's called.
Merry Christmas to all.

2013 SAMS LDS volleyball tournament
Hi all hope you had a great Thanksgiving, ours was interesting, in the last 5 days our refrigerator died, we woke up the day we were going to have 20 some people over with no heat, the next day our water heater burst half flooding our finished basement, and a pilot light went out on our other water heater, thus we had cold showers, but all is fixed or replaced and dried out, and we got an early Black Friday deal of a 32 inch, HD. Flat screen TV for $98, to replace the one damaged when we were struck by lightning last Summer. But believe me when I say we consider any disaster that doesn't require a trip to the hospital to be minor and yes we are counting our blessings.
With that said, it is TOURNAMENT TIME
We have had two late season additions to the tournament, TC2, the Hmong ward, didn't hear about the league until a few weeks ago so they took Cedar lake's place in the league and since we are all about participation we are letting them into the tournament. The second wild card team is maple Grove young men, with won the boys tournament for the third straight year when the other teams didn't show up. We invited them to play in the men's tournament and said they could invite their ym leaders to join if they would like. The committee felt good about this and I hope you all agree.
Since the regular season was more about fun and participation it was hard to determine the exact final standings but the committee determined the following standings. This is a true double elimination tournament. And we are under a stake mandate to have the bottom teams play each other and work up to the higher ranked teams, thus the top 4 teams get early round byes.
1) Blaine 1, returning champions
2) Maple Grove men
3) Medicine lake
4) Shore View
5) North St. Paul
6) Shingle Creek
7) Lake Nokomis
8) Elm Creek
9) Anoka
10) Blaine 2
11) TC2
12) Maple Grove young men
We will have the brackets out later but here are the starting times and your first opponents. the tournament begins next Thursday Dec. 5, with the final 4 teams playing the following Thursday Dec. 12 at the St. Paul Stake Center.
At St. Paul Thursday Dec. 5, 2013
7:00 Maple Grove young men/ Blaine 2

8:00 Shore View plays the winner of game 5

7:00 Anoka / TC2
7:00 net 2 Shingle Creek/ lake Nokomis

Just a reminder Baptized members of your ward or returning missionaries or students need not play during the regular season to participate in the tournament.
Non- members and "free agent members were asked to play at least 3 times in order to qualify to participate.
Match's are two out of three, games to 25, win by two or the first team to 30.

NFL after Vikings...
Hmmm other than the Vikings quarterback musical chair season, what in the NFL is worth watching?
How about the Kansas City Chiefs?
At 7-0 they are now the only undefeated team left.
What happened?
First a coaching change, and this is why you might be interested.
Andy Reid, who was the previous Philadelphia coach was hired.
Andy played football for BYU From 77-81, he was an assistant coach for BYU in 82.
Andy is an active member of the church.
Good luck

2013 SAMS LDS Men/YM Volleyball Grid
2013 SAMS LDS Men's Volleyball grid
* This grid is used to make the schedule. The way you read it is to look up your team on the left column, read across, and as you look to the top row you see the team you play. The numbers in that box represent which weeks you play that team. (Ex: MG plays NSP weeks 6 and 9.) The bottom row shows the weeks the men and young men's teams play. You can see each men's team will play the young men two or three times. You also see that every team plays every other team at least once and no more than twice.
